Success Story

LAN Design and Integration

Every ten years this agency is committed to meeting the statutory obligation of completing and reporting an accurate count of every person in the US. This decennial census presents extraordinary challenges to the bureau as they collect the data, both from online form submission and from enumerators in the field.

Problem

  • The agency needed a robust network infrastructure to provide a path to their fiber optic backbone from field and regional offices
  • The agency needed to establish efficient connectivity between 252 Area Center offices (ACO) and field enumerators and online from submitters
  • The agency needed to upload data from ACOs to the 6 Regional Census Centers (RCCs), leveraging the speed and bandwidth of the fiber optic telecommunications backbone

Solution

  • WWT designed, configured, and managed 252 LANs at the ACOs to receive and send data, through the fiber optic backbone to the RCCs
  • WWT designed, configured, and managed 6 LANs at the RCCs to receive data from the 252 ACOs
  • WWT configured all routers for the LAN/WAN connections

Results

The agency network was optimized for maximum efficiency in receiving and processing data from all data sources and locations.

The speed and bandwidth of the fiber optic backbone was fully utilized to facilitate the efficiency in receiving data for accurate population counts
